Basics About the Honda HR-V

The Honda HR-V is a subcompact compact crossover SUV introduced to the North American market for the 2016 model year. Although it’s in its third generation elsewhere, the American second-generation model debuted in 2023, when it was moved to the 11th-generation Honda Civic platform. This transition made the HR-V ten inches longer and three inches wider.
At the heart of the HR-V is an efficient 158 hp 2.0 L four-cylinder engine, leveraging up to 138 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm. This is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine is borrowed from the mentioned Honda Civic and gives the HR-V more power and torque than was previously available. Every HR-V brims with safety features and contains all the connectivity you need.

What’s New in 2024?

After the 2023 redesign, there were no changes to the HR-V in 2024. The year-old improvements heralded a new stylish appearance inside and out, more power, more space, and improved handling and ride quality.

Honda HR-V Trim Levels

In 2024, the Honda HR-V comes in three trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L. The HR-V is accessibly priced, and the LX is one of the most affordable SUVs around. There’s lots of useful standard equipment, including a generous array of Honda Sensing driver-assist technologies, a 7″ infotainment touchscreen, a 7″ digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, plus support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The HR-V Sport trim is the more aggressively styled HR-V with sporty features like bigger 18″ gloss-black alloy wheels (17″ elsewhere), gloss-black side mirrors, and a gloss-black rear roofline spoiler (all models have a roofline spoiler). Vibrant orange stitching jazzes up the interior sports seats. Of course, there are other extras, and more luxuries still in the EX-L. The 180W audio system adds two speakers with each trim upgrade (4x, 6x, 8x).

Honda HR-V Versatility

The HR-V is nothing if not versatile. Although it was enlarged slightly in 2023, it’s still a small car with nimble handling, which makes it perfectly suited to tight city streets and miserly parking spaces. But it’s also comfortable, with a spacious, plush interior that is ideal for extended journeys. Honda’s “Body Stabilizing Seats” at the front improve long-distance comfort.
Adding to HR-V versatility is the well-designed cargo area. It’s easy to access and offers up to 55.1 cu ft of space with the rear seats down.
